to come and go whenever you want.

You can store your luggage by the reception and still use all of the hostel’s facilities until you head on.

Children

We are child-friendly because we have kids too, however we can not accept children under the age of 10 due to safety and noise reasons.

Please note that the building is not very childproof. Check our photos, as you can see, our terraces don’t have railings and it is very poorly soundproofed.

We reserve the right to ask families with children to leave if we feel they are a danger to themselves or disturbing other guests. Thanks in advance!

Pets

We do not allow guests to bring their own pets.

We have many friendly dogs and cats at the hostel (that’s Bob in the picture). We need them to keep unpleasant visitors out. We just hope you are not allergic or scared.

No Party Hostel

We are no party hostel! Our guests come here for the tranquil setting.

QUIET HOURS: 10pm to 6am (Please don’t work w/ sound at night.)

By the way, you can use our grill for your private BBQ. Just bring your own charcoal and lighter.

Recommendations

  • It gets dark up here – please bring a flashlight!
  • Between April and mid-December it’s good to have an umbrella.
  • Mosquito nets are provided but you can also hang your own (luckily we don’t have many mosquitos).
  • Swimming suits for the waterfall.
  • A photocopy of your passport (there are often police controls and they might want to see your passport – but if you go to the beach, don’t bring valuables, as petty theft is common).

The Environment

The Jungle

Don’t be afraid of the jungle! We are not really far away from civilization…

Yes, there are bugs up here, but not many, and luckily not many mosquitos neither!

It can happen that you see a snake or a scorpion. It does not happen very often, because they don’t like people, but it is a possibility… So far nobody has gotten hurt!

We also get many pleasant visitors around the hostel like monkeys, sloths, toucans, and many birds.

The Building

The hostel building is made out of wood and everything is pretty open (ceilings are not closed, for example). That gives it a very special atmosphere and that’s why most guests love it here.

Privacy is, let’s say, limited 😉 and bugs may get into your room.

Food

We offer a delicious, pretty big and healthy breakfast
from 8 to 11am for $5-7 per person.

If you book a room with us directly through our website only, we offer you free breakfast for the length of your stay. You can contact us for more details. This offer does not apply during holidays like Semana Santa (April 8 – May 8, 2022), Christmas / New Years (Dec 17 – Jan 16, 2021) and Envision. However we still offer a discount for website reservations.

Since we’re a little up the hill and further away from a supermarket, we’d recommend buying your supplies/groceries in “downtown” Uvita before coming up the hill.

If you arrive late or are far too lazy to go shopping, we won’t let you starve as we sell eggs, drinks, pasta and sauce, plus a few snacks… But we are no restaurant.

There are many good restaurants within walking distance though and many of them offer delivery service.

Kitchen

COOKING: 6am to 9pm (gas will be turned off at 9pm automatically) but use of the kitchen is possible 24 hrs and coffee is either provided or you can make yourself some, it’s free of charge 🙂

Read more about our kitchen here.

Please note, we are an eco-friendly hostel.

Whale Watching Season

About whale watching tours here in Uvita, Costa Rica:
Please check the whale season if you only come to see whales!

As far as we know, whales are here from July to mid October. They are hopefully coming back end of December and will stay again until February/March.

Naturally, things can change, so please contact us
or a tour operator in Uvita before you book your accomodation!

By the way:
Dolphins are usually around all year round and the snorkeling is good fun anyway!

Volunteering

We offer a work exchange program (minimum stay: at least 4 weeks) for those who want to try out living in the Costa Rica jungle!

Please contact us if you want to stay for free in our basic volunteer house and work 4 hours per day. Use of all facilities + a local breakfast is included.

Child care, kitchen cleaning, maintenance/garden, reception,* and social media are the positions we offer.

*please note: for the reception position, you must be fluent in both English and Spanish.
