Good to know

Children

We are child friendly because we have kids, too.
But the building is not very childproof
and it is very poorly soundproofed...

Payment and Currencies

We accept cash and credit cards.
But we have to charge 5% for credit card payments.
And of course we accept both currencies -
Costa Rican Colones and US$.

Recommendations

Please bring a flashlight. And swimming suits for the waterfall.

The Jungle

Don't be afraid of the jungle!
We are not really far away from civilization...
Of course there are bugs up here, but not many,
and luckily not many mosquitos neither!
You can bring your own mosquito net or get one here during your stay.

The Building

The hostel building is made out of wood
and everything is pretty open (ceilings are not closed, for example).
That gives it a very special atmoshere
and that's why most guests love it here,
but privacy is limited and bugs may get into your room...

Food

We offer a delicious, pretty big and healthy breakfast
from 7 to 11am for $7 per person.

Since we're a little up the hill and further away from a supermarket,
we'd recommend buying your groceries in “downtown” Uvita
before coming up the hill.

If you arrive late or are far too lazy to go shopping,
we won't let you starve as we sell eggs from our own chicken, drinks, pasta and sauce plus a few snacks...
But we are no restaurant.
There are many good ones within walking distance though.
At Sueños Tranquilos for example you can fish your own fish and get it prepared for you to eat there.
They also have a pool and a huge garden - it's a great restaurant within around 10 minutes walking distance only.

Whale Watching

About whale watching tours here in Uvita:
Please check the whale season if you only come to see whales!

As far as we know, whales are here from July to mid October.
They are hopefully coming back end of December
and will stay again until February/March.
Naturally, things can change, so please contact us
or a tour operator in Uvita before you book your accomodation!

By the way: Dolphins are usually around all year round
and the snorkeling is good fun anyway!

No Party Hostel

We are no party hostel!
Quiet time is 10pm to 6am...
Once in a while we'll have a BBQ or a campfire
and you can use our grill for your private BBQ, too.
Just bring your own charcoal and lighter.

Please note, we are an eco-friendly hostel.

Your Hosts

Cascada Verde is under new management since December 2012. We, Julie, Stephan and Luzie,
(a family from Berlin, Germany) took over 2012
and started "Hostel Cascada Verde".
Since 2016 Maik, Katja, Paul and Lara are the new tenants
and we are managing the hostel.
We are all looking forward to meeting you!

Volunteering

We offer a work exchange programm
(minimum stay: at least 4 weeks).
Please contact us if you want to stay for free
in our basic volunteer house and work 4 hours per day.
Use of all facilities is included + some money for food.
Child care, kitchen cleaning, maintenance/garden and reception
are the positions we offer.

Yoga

Great news: We offer yoga classes again on our upper terrace deck!
Fridays 9am or by arrangement with our favorite instructor Manassah.
Non-hostel guests are very welcome, too!
$10 per person. And by the way: We offer breakfast till 11am.
¡Hasta luego!
